In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano discuss the Haason Reddick trade, where the NY Jets stand in the AFC East after the Stefon Diggs trade, a potential pass rusher target, and their weekly draft spotlights.
The conversation began with a breakdown of the Jets' decision to trade for star pass rusher Haason Reddick last week. The move undoubtedly makes the Jets a much better team, further solidifying them as genuine Super Bowl contenders.
It's hard to argue with the value of the Reddick trade, but it is fair to question the Jets' approach to the pass rusher position over the last two years. What does this mean for Will McDonald's future? Should the Jets have just kept Bryce Huff? All of that is discussed.
What is clear is that the Jets might be the team to beat in the AFC East, not just as a result of the Reddick trade, but also following the Bills' decision to trade Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans on Wednesday.
Diggs' departure highlights a litany of losses for the Bills this offseason. It's not a stretch to say that, if healthy, the Jets have the best roster in the AFC East. The Diggs trade further emphasizes that notion.
The Jets also set up an interesting pre-draft meeting with Penn State pass rusher Chop Robinson. Robinson is a projected first-round pick, making it very notable that the Jets are hosting him on an official top-30 visit.
Would the Jets really consider drafting a pass rusher with a top-50 pick? Justin and Mike discuss why the Jets might be meeting with Robinson.
Finally, Justin and Mike each provided their weekly draft spotlight, with Mike focusing on Virginia wide receiver Malik Washington and Justin analyzing Utah safety Cole Bishop. Both players are possible Day 2 or 3 targets for the Jets in this month's draft.
