In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano discuss the latest Haason Reddick drama, Braelon Allen's strong spring for the NY Jets, Zach Wilson's struggles in Denver, and Mekhi Becton's reported position change.
The show started with a conversation about the latest going on with Jets pass rusher Haason Reddick. Reddick has been absent from OTAs this spring amidst rumors of a potential contract dispute.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh provided an update on Reddick when speaking to reporters on Tuesday, and while he did insist the team expects him to be in attendance for mandatory minicamp next week, it's clear that the former All-Pro is looking for a new contract.
What's the endgame here? Will the Jets extend Reddick before the start of the season? How much is he looking for? Should the Jets have just re-signed Bryce Huff instead? There was plenty to discuss!
Justin and Mike then talked about the strong spring that rookie running back Braelon Allen has reportedly put together. While Allen has shined, second-year running back Israel Abanikanda has plummeted down the depth chart. What should Jets fans make of the running back situation?
The second half of the show was devoted to checking in on a couple of former Jets players, Zach Wilson and Mekhi Becton. While Becton is proving his value to his new team, Wilson has reportedly struggled this spring with the Denver Broncos.
Wilson is reportedly seen as a "distant third" in the quarterback competition with rookie Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham in Denver. That doesn't bode well for Wilson's NFL future.
As for Becton, the former first-round pick has been practicing at guard for the Philadelphia Eagles. Becton isn't projected to start in Philadelphia, but he finds himself in an ideal situation to develop, and it's clear the Eagles believe he can offer more versatility than he's shown in the past.
