Sauce Gardner named most overrated player in football by one NFL executive

But if you can believe it, said executive remained anonymous.

In case you're one of the three people on this planet that care about what anonymous NFL executives have to say about anything, this blog's for you.

Specifically, this anonymous NFL exec is very Logged On. Because this anonymous NFL exec called Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner "the most overrated player" in the NFL, an opinion that almost exclusively lives on Twitter. But it's 2024, so molding your opinions off of other people's tweets is not only allowed, but encouraged.

ESPN knows this, which probably explains why they put together a big list of anoymous executive quotes on, like, everything. At one point, they ask all those execs to rank the Top 10 corners, and the result was one ... lively ... quote on Sauce Gardner.

The "he holds on every play" critique isn't exactly new, and it's certainly not interesting. They said the same thing about the Legion of Boom back in the day. And even if Gardner does hold more than the average corner, OK? Sometimes you gotta hold! (This is admittedly not the strongest defense of Gardner out there.) I feel like anyone still on a rookie contract can't be that overrated. But I'm not an NFL executive, so what do I know.

I simply wouldn't call a 23-year old corner who won Defensive Rookie of the Year and has made the First Team All-Pro every season of his career so far overrated, but that's just me. Then again, if I had the chance to rile up some Jets blogs by throwing around key SEO phrases anonymously for a season preview, I'd be tempted. The game's the game.
