3. Miami Dolphins

  • Tua Tagovailoa
  • Mike White
  • Skylar Thompson
  • James Blackman

The battle for the second and third spots on this list was an interesting one, but I decided to give the edge to the Jets. That leaves the Miami Dolphins with the third-best quarterback room in the AFC East.

That shouldn't be seen as any disrespect to Tua Tagovailoa, however. The former first-round pick was under immense pressure to succeed in 2022, and he responded with the best season of his career to date.

Tagovailoa finished with an NFL-best 105.5 passer rating, 25 touchdowns, and just eight interceptions. His 8.9 yards per attempt was also the highest in the league. He was a very good quarterback this past season.

The Dolphins also went out and signed former Jets quarterback Mike White to serve as Tagovailoa's primary backup. White proved during his time in New York that he can absolutely hold down the fort in case of injury — hence why the Dolphins handed him a hefty, incentive-heavy contract.

The reason the Dolphins rank third is more because of the uncertainty with their quarterback room. Tagovailoa's repeated health concerns are a serious issue, and White had his fair share of injury trouble with the Jets as well.

A healthy Tagovailoa is a borderline top-10 quarterback in the NFL (in Mike McDaniel's offensive system). It's just difficult to rely on him staying healthy, given what we've seen in recent years.

Nonetheless, the Dolphins' quarterback room is a strong one. Don't overlook them this season — Miami has an excellent roster.
