Ranking every position group on the 2023 NY Jets roster
By Nathan Smith
The NY Jets and their fans have been patiently waiting over a decade for this front office to build a talented and competitive roster, and after taking major strides in 2022, this is a team that's now prepared to make a deep Super Bowl run in 2023.
Like every team around the NFL, this Jets squad has its strengths and weaknesses, but with some amazing additions over the past 18 months, there's no doubt that this is one of the strongest groups in the entire NFL.
On this talented roster, though, which position groups stand above the rest? Which do the Jets need to improve now or through the season? Who can the faithful Jets fans rely on in 2023? Read on as we rank every position group of the 2023 NY Jets roster.
10. NY Jets special teams
It may be tough to put the special teams group in this spot, but someone has to be in this role, and unfortunately, despite the fantastic additions in recent times, this is just a unit that lacks true star power like other groups around the league.
Thomas Morstead and Greg Zuerlein are both more than solid veterans that will play their roles well in 2023, avoiding small mistakes that cost them dearly in 2022, but the true X-factor will be the new return man in Mecole Hardman.
Braxton Berrios served this team as a fantastic returner over the past few years, but now, the Jets have seemingly upgraded at the position. If Hardman can put together the type of season that we've seen from Berrios, this team could push its way up this list in a big way.
9. NY Jets safeties
In recent years, the Jets have fielded some strong safety groups, and while the starting combination of Jordan Whitehead and Adrian Amos is solid and has the capability to turn the tide of a game with one play, the depth is an issue.
With unproven names like Ashtyn Davis, Tony Adams, Jarrick Bernard-Converse, and Trey Dean making up the rest of this group, the Jets could be in for a world of trouble if they suffer an injury or two, meaning this is a position the team needs to fill in a desperate way.
With the rest of the defense being covered in talent, they may be just good enough to cover up for the sins of this squad, but at this point in time, it's hard for Jets fans to look upon this group with optimism, even if they manage to stay healthy for the entire season.
