Ranking the 10 best moves of the Joe Douglas era for the NY Jets
By Nathan Smith
2. The NY Jets landed a four-time MVP at quarterback
This is the latest in a long line of great moves for Douglas as the GM of the Jets, and it may be the one that pushes them over the edge into genuine Super Bowl contention, as they gave up some picks to land the four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
With a talented offense, the Jets needed to make a splash this offseason, and despite all of the criticism for how long the deal dragged out, Douglas stood firm. Now the Jets have arguably the greatest quarterback to ever wear the Jets green and white.
Ultimately, this move may end up backfiring if the Jets don't make a deep playoff run in the next few years, but they've now got a mentor for Zach Wilson and a talent coming off a 3,695-yard, 26-touchdown, 12-interception season, looking to reinvigorate his career in the toughest market in the NFL.
1. The 2022 NFL Draft could define this franchise for years
While making trades and adding solid veterans were good building blocks for this team if they wanted to become a winning organization and attractive destination again, they needed some young stars, and that's exactly what the Jets got in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Not only did they land both Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner in the first round, but they followed that up with Breece Hall in the second round, and if the Jets become a consistent force in the AFC, it will be on the back of this young core.
Joe Douglas has been patient and meticulous while building this organization back into a winner, but of all the moves he's made, this is the one weekend that has meant the most to the Jets. This draft class will have positive ramifications on the team for years and years to come.
