Ranking the 10 best moves of the Joe Douglas era for the NY Jets
By Nathan Smith
8. The NY Jets have found some late round steals
One thing that other teams have perfected over the years is nailing late-round draft picks, and while it's impossible for teams to hit on every single one, the Jets couldn't do that at all before Douglas. But now, several key players have been found late in the NFL Draft.
Some notable examples of this are Michael Carter, Michael Carter II, Max Mitchell, Bryce Hall, Micheal Clemons, and Brandin Echols, and while none have developed into stars, even good depth picks late in the draft can be crucial for NFL teams. The Jets now have a GM that can identify and land good players from anywhere.
7. Like promised, the NY Jets have built through the trenches
Joe Douglas, being a former offensive lineman himself, knows the importance of building a franchise from the inside out, and while it's not always been pretty, he's managed to create a genuine strength for the team.
With names like Quinnen Williams, John Franklin-Myers, Carl Lawson, Alijah Vera-Tucker, Duane Brown, Laken Tomlinson, and so many others, these two units have depth along with a great mix of youth and experience, fulfilling his promise to Jets fans.
Health is no doubt a concern, as the Jets were hit by the injury bug all throughout the 2022 season, but if healthy, we could be looking at two of the best groups in the NFL — a credit to Douglas' patience, negotiation, and eye for talent.
