The NY Jets have completed their first week of the preseason and head into their second exhibition game a little worse for wear in the injury department.

Injuries to the likes of Zach Wilson and Mekhi Becton have dampened the mood around Florham Park, but the show must go on. However, that show will come to a premature end for five Jets players this Tuesday.

The Jets will be forced to cut their roster down to 85 players by Tuesday at 4 pm ET. With a full roster of 90 players at the time of writing, that means five cuts will have to be made.

Which players find themselves on the bubble for this initial wave of cuts? We took a crack at predicting the first five players the Jets might release ahead of Tuesday's deadline.

5. Derrick Kelly, OG, NY Jets

Derrick Kelly was one of two players the Jets signed following a set of 50+ tryouts at rookie minicamp. His tryout partner, undrafted wide receiver Calvin Jackson, should be safe from cuts for now. The same can't be said about Kelly.

The former undrafted free agent spent time with the New Orleans Saints from 2019 to 2021, appearing in seven games and playing a total of 108 snaps.

He has experience playing both guard and tackle which could help him make a case for a roster spot, but the Jets have enough interior depth that they can cut ties with him.

Kelly played just 16 snaps at left guard on Friday (tied for the lowest among all Jets offensive linemen) and he'll turn 27 years old next week. There just doesn't appear to be a spot for him on the roster or practice squad for that matter.
