The NY Jets will enter their Week 15 matchup with the Detroit Lions very shorthanded as five of the team's seven inactive players for the game are injury-related including star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.
Williams injured his calf in the team's Week 14 loss to the Buffalo Bills and was held out of practice all week. Despite that, the Jets didn't initially rule him out and head coach Robert Saleh said that he had a "50/50" chance to play.
The Jets worked out Williams prior to the game before deciding that it was safer to keep him out, especially with a short week upcoming. The team hopes Williams will be able to play on Thursday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Four other Jets players will be held out due to injury as well as quarterback Mike White (ribs), wide receiver Corey Davis (head), safety Lamarcus Joyner (hip), and cornerback Brandin Echols (quad) are all inactive as well.
The only two inactive players not dealing with injuries are running back James Robinson and tight end Jeremy Ruckert.
The NY Jets will be without Quinnen Williams and others in Week 15
White was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday and, despite insisting that there was "no doubt" he'd play, Jets doctors refused to clear him for contact. It seems likely that White is forced to miss Thursday's game against the Jaguars as well.
Zach Wilson will start in place of the injured White while Joe Flacco will once again serve as the backup quarterback this week.
Davis suffered a concussion early in the game last Sunday and was held out of practice all week. He was unable to clear concussion protocol in time for this week's game.
Joyner was a late addition to the injury report on Saturday with what was called a hip injury. Joyner practiced all week and has played every defensive snap for the Jets this season, but he'll now be forced to miss his first game.
The Jets have Ashtyn Davis and Tony Adams on the active roster with Will Parks who was re-signed to the practice squad and elevated for the game this week.
Echols injured his quad last Sunday and will miss his first game of the season. He and Justin Hardee have formed arguably the best gunner duo in the NFL so his absence is significant for special-teams purposes. Echols' absence opens the door for Bryce Hall to be active for the first time since Week 1.
Robinson is an expected inactive as the Jets will continue to lean on Zonovan Knight, Michael Carter, and Ty Johnson at running back.
Ruckert finds himself inactive again after playing 15 special-teams snaps last week. The Jets will have three active tight ends in Tyler Conklin, C.J. Uzomah, and Kenny Yeboah.
The Jets take on the Lions with kickoff set for 1 pm.
