The NY Jets are a little over two weeks away from what promises to be an eventful and impactful 2024 NFL Draft. With the team eyeing Super Bowl contention next season, the Jets will have to do what they can to position themselves as contenders entering the new year.
This year's draft will present an opportunity to further solidify themselves as genuine contenders after a successful offseason to this point. The Jets' moves in free agency and the trade market have certainly afforded them ample flexibility.
Many believe the Jets will attempt to trade down in the first round of the draft, but what if one of their top targets starts to slide? They could consider a trade-up, and that's exactly the scenario we explored here.
Let's take a look at our latest seven-round 2024 NFL Mock Draft courtesy of Pro Football Focus' mock simulator.
Round 1, 8th Overall, NY Jets: Malik Nabers, WR, LSU (via ATL)
The Jets are fortunate enough that LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers is somehow still on the board when the Atlanta Falcons pick at No. 8 overall. We decided to jump the Chicago Bears to stop Nabers from sliding any further.
It's possible the Jets would need to give up more than a 2025 third-round pick, but both the Jimmy Johnson trade chart and PFF's simulator determined this to be fair value. This is well worth it for the Jets.
Nabers has all the makings of a future All-Pro wide receiver. A 2023 Unanimous All-American, Nabers led the SEC in receiving with 89 catches for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Nabers' athleticism, blazing speed, and crisp route running give him a sky-high ceiling at the NFL level, making him one of the best players in his class. He joins Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams in what might be the best wide receiver trio in the NFL.
