NY Jets swap QB for defensive lineman in fair trade proposal
By Kristen Wong
The NY Jets could entertain an interesting trade proposal that sees the team give up a quarterback depth piece for defensive reinforcements.
This offseason, the Jets have been at the center of a number of trade rumors from Deebo Samuel to Tyreek Hill, but they haven't made any blockbuster transactions -- yet.
Now, after the draft, New York has significantly less capital to spend, but the team can still make modest acquisitions before the start of the 2022 season.
A trade proposal was recently floated that would involve the Jets and the Los Angeles Rams swapping players: New York would give LA quarterback Mike White in exchange for Rams' defensive lineman A'Shawn Robinson.
Paul Esden Jr. of Heavy.com explained briefly why a trade between the 2021 Super Bowl champs and the Jets might make sense, calling the Rams' backup quarterback situation "questionable" while their defensive line unit is deep.
" If Stafford went down, would the Rams be able to trust Wolford or Perkins? Perhaps a straight-up swap of White for defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson would satisfy both sides."

NY Jets trade Mike White for Los Angeles Rams' A'Shawn Robinson in logical proposal
In theory, this trade makes a lot of sense.
With Zach Wilson as the starter and Joe Flacco as the backup, the Jets have an expendable player in Mike White who, despite impressing in a Week 7 game against Cincinnati last season, may end up being flipped for a draft pick in one or two years' time.
Why not make that trade now? New York would get a mammoth defensive lineman in the 27-year-old Robinson whose greatest asset may be blocking against the run. According to Pro Football Focus, Robinson has a career 78.3 run defense grade, ranked seventh-best overall in the league among interior defenders,
The Jets have two starting-caliber tackles in Quinnen Williams and Sheldon Rankins, but Robinson at worst poses as a rotational piece who can take defensive snaps if either player gets injured.
In return, the Rams would get their backup behind Matthew Stafford as they try to run it back in 2022, and everybody comes away from this trade with what they want.
Grooming Mike White for a future trade for draft capital would help in the long run, but if New York wants to see improved results this year, exchanging White for Robinson could be in the Jets' best interest.
