The NY Jets are slowly but surely finalizing the contracts for their rookie class with wide receiver Elijah Moore the latest official addition leaving Zach Wilson as the team's only unsigned draft pick.
The Jets announced late Wednesday night that they had signed Moore, the 34th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, to a standard four-year rookie contract.
ESPN's Field Yates later reported that Moore's contract will be fully guaranteed through the first three seasons. This follows a trend of second-round picks receiving more guarantees than in the past.
Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Tyson Campbell became the first second-round pick to receive guarantees into the fourth year of his contract when he signed with the team earlier this week.
Campbell was the first pick in the second round, one selection ahead of Moore, so it's no surprise to see both players receive as much guaranteed compensation as they did.
The NY Jets believe they have a future superstar in Elijah Moore.
Moore stole the show during OTAs and minicamp looking the part of the future superstar wide receiver the Jets believe he could be.
The Jets' love for Elijah Moore has been no secret to this point. They fell in love with the Ole Miss standout in the pre-draft process and even had him as the No. 16 player on their overall board.
Needless to say, they were overjoyed when he managed to fall right into their laps all the way at pick 34.
Moore is expected to play a significant role in his rookie season as part of a revamped wide receiver corps also featuring newcomers such as Corey Davis and Keelan Cole.
Another newcomer, the man who will be throwing him the ball, Zach Wilson, remains the lone Jets draft pick without a contract.
This isn't a concern as a pair of other first-round picks also remain unsigned, Rashawn Slater and Greg Newsome II, and third overall pick Trey Lance just signed his contract on Wednesday.
If Wilson isn't signed before next week, then issues might start to arise. But the Jets have been proactive with signing their unsigned draft picks this week with rookies reporting to training camp a week early this past Tuesday.
Expect a Zach Wilson deal to get done very soon, perhaps as soon as today.
Nine down, one to go.
