NY Jets QB Joe Flacco could make history against the Ravens

The NY Jets might be forced to turn to Joe Flacco ahead of their Week 1 meeting with the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday. If so, Flacco would be asked to face the team he spent 11 with and even won a Super Bowl ring with.

But that's not all that's at stake.

Flacco is looking to become one of just three active quarterbacks in the NFL to have defeated at least 31 of the 32 NFL franchises, along with Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. Brady is the only one to have beaten all 32 teams. Only eight quarterbacks in NFL history, active or not, have accomplished this incredible feat.

The only two teams that Flacco has yet to beat in his NFL career are the Seattle Seahawks (0-1) and the Ravens who he has not played yet. Sunday marks a chance for Flacco to make history.

The Jets will announce their Week 1 starting quarterback on Wednesday with Zach Wilson still nursing a knee injury. Wilson went through a successful workout for the second consecutive day on Tuesday prompting some optimism that he may be able to take the field.

That said, it still feels more likely that Flacco is the man under center come Sunday. If that's the case, the Jets feel more than confident that the veteran signal-caller can get the job done.

Flacco re-signed with the Jets this offseason and beat out Mike White for the No. 2 quarterback job, although it wasn't exactly much of a competition. The 37-year-old played well this summer and is still capable of turning up and playing well.

The Jets are underdogs against the Ravens for a reason. Flacco or no Flacco, the Jets aren't going to be expected to win. But that's why they play the games. Projections are just that: projections.

Joe Flacco has a chance to make history on Sunday, and the Jets have a chance to make a statement.
