NY Jets QB Aaron Rodgers says he could return for the playoffs

They say to never say never, and that seems to be the ideology that NY Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is abiding by. Rodgers believes that there is a scenario in which he returns from his torn Achilles as soon as this season.

Yes, you read that right. The soon-to-be 40-year-old QB believes that he could possibly return from injury in time for the Super Bowl or even earlier in the postseason.

Rodgers made an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Friday, and when asked if he could possibly return for the playoffs, the four-time MVP insisted that "anything is possible."

Now, that comment from Rodgers might have been a little tongue in cheek, but it's also possible that he's simply keeping the door open for a miraculous recovery.

It should be noted that the Jets have already announced that Rodgers is out for the season, but that doesn't mean he can't still return if his recovery process goes smoother than anyone expects.

Could the NY Jets see Aaron Rodgers again this season?

For Rodgers to return in time for Super Bowl LVIII, that would give him a recovery time of just five months — an almost unprecedented occurrence in football. It has happened before, though.

Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers famously returned from a torn Achilles just over five months after the injury in 2021. The same doctor who performed his surgery, Dr. Neil ElAttrache, also performed Rodgers' surgery.

Of course, Akers is the exception — not the rule. Rodgers will also turn 40 years old in December. His age has to be considered when discussing his projected rehab time.

Still, even if Rodgers is unable to return in time for the postseason (which is obviously the most likely scenario), Jets fans should be ecstatic with his comments today.

Rodgers wants to play football again — he made that abundantly clear. He's still all-in on the Jets organization. He told McAfee that he's excited to return to the Jets facility, specifically so he can work with Zach Wilson again.

Aaron Rodgers' story with the Jets isn't over. This chapter of his career may have taken a different turn than anyone could have expected, but he's not calling it quits.

And maybe, just maybe, he could pull off a miracle and return in time for a magical playoff run. As Rodgers said, anything is possible.
