NY Jets offensive line is suddenly very deep after Carter Warren draft pick

The NY Jets saw what happened to their offensive line last year, and they went into the 2023 NFL Draft with a goal of ensuring it doesn't happen again.

Following the selection of Wisconsin center Joe Tippmann in the second round, the Jets doubled-down on offensive linemen, adding Pittsburgh's Carter Warren.

A New Jersey native, Warren was born and raised in Paterson, NJ, and went on to start four years at Pittsburgh. With 39 career starts at left tackle under his belt, Warren has plenty of collegiate experience.

He stands at 6-foot-5, 316 pounds, with excellent length and high-level pass-blocking ability. The Jets have added their third trench player in three picks and their second offensive lineman.

Seven different Jets offensive tackles, if you include Alijah Vera-Tucker, spent time on the injured reserve last season. The Jets saw firsthand how injuries could decimate the unit and derail a season.

They clearly made it a point of emphasis to ensure that they covered all their bases this offseason. The Jets' offensive line is suddenly one of the deepest units on the roster.

Mekhi Becton, Duane Brown, Max Mitchell, Warren, and Cedric Ogbuehi make up the notable offensive tackles on the roster. Laken Tomlinson and Alijah Vera-Tucker are the projected starting guards. Joe Tippmann, Connor McGovern, Wes Schweitzer, and Trystan Colon can all play center or guard.

That's a lot of depth and a lot of versatility for a Jets team that desperately needed it going into the offseason.

Warren is an ideal developmental swing tackle whose massive wingspan could help him corral speed rushers at the next level. He needs to continue improving his play strength, and there are genuine leverage concerns, but Warren makes sense as a Day 3 developmental tackle prospect.

The Jets continue to bolster their offensive line depth. What a difference a few years can make.
