NY Jets OT Mekhi Becton continues to inspire fans on social media
By Justin Fried
NY Jets offensive tackle Mekhi Becton has worked hard to get himself into the best shape of his NFL career this offseason. The former first-round pick has been posting daily updates on his progress on social media for months.
Becton isn't just doing this for himself, however. The 23-year-old has inspired countless others on Twitter to pursue their own workout goals. His success is motivating others to push themselves.
Becton, who is notably very active on Twitter, has made a habit out of responding to those who send him workout videos/photos with words of encouragement. He's even gone as far as to request his followers to send him updates on their own workout progress.
Social media, Twitter in particular, can be a dark, emotionless void of misery, but it's things like this that help restore some faith in the platform. Becton and his Jets fan followers continue to inspire each other.
Below is a collection of encouraging tweets from Becton over just the last few days.
The NY Jets have high hopes for Mekhi Becton in 2023
A first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Becton put together a very promising rookie season, but he hasn't been able to live up to expectations since. He's played just one game over the last two seasons as a result of two separate knee injuries.
Becton is putting in the work this offseason with the hope that he can return to form in 2023. ESPN's Rich Cimini reported that Becton is down to 350 pounds, having lost somewhere around 50 pounds dating back to last summer.
That's just one step in the process β but it is an important one. The next step for Becton is returning to the gridiron and picking up where he left off in his rookie season.
The expectation is that Becton will compete for a starting offensive tackle spot this summer, very likely at right tackle. There have been rumblings that the Jets could select a tackle early in the 2023 NFL Draft, but either way, a healthy Becton would be a massive boost to the Jets' offensive line.
Becton isn't just putting in the work behind the scenes. He's made his continued progress public, and in doing so, he's inspired a collection of fans to do the same.
This is the oftentimes overlooked beauty of social media and the Jets community.
