As the NY Jets prepare for their Week 1 clash with the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football, the team has released its final injury report for the game. Two players have been ruled out.
Veteran offensive guard Wes Schweitzer and linebacker Zaire Barnes will not play in the Jets' season opener due to injury. Five other players popped up on the practice injury report this week, but none of them have injury designations going into the game.
The most notable of those players is wide receiver Mike Williams, who was a full participant in practice this week as he continues to recover from the torn ACL he suffered in September of last year.
Williams is expected to be on a snap count in Week 1, so don't expect him to be a featured part of the Jets' offense just yet. Still, it's very encouraging that he was a full participant in practice and that he's suiting up this week.
Below is a look at the Jets' final injury report for Week 1.
Position | Player | Injury | Game Status |
---|---|---|---|
LB | Zaire Barnes | Ankle | OUT |
OL | Wes Schweitzer | Hand | OUT |
CB | Jarrick Bernard-Converse | Groin | Healthy |

NY Jets injury report Week 1
The Jets officially placed Schweitzer on the injured reserve with his hand injury on Saturday. It's unclear when the injury occurred but he did not participate in practice at all this week.
The Jets could promote offensive lineman Jake Hanson (or former UFL standout Kohl Levao) from the practice squad to take Schweitzer's place on the active roster. This leaves Xavier Newman as the team's only healthy backup interior offensive lineman for the time being.
As for Barnes, he was a full participant in Thursday's practice but did not practice on Friday, indicating that he suffered the injury during the week. Jamien Sherwood and Chazz Surratt are the Jets' top backup linebacker options. Sam Eguavoen could be elevated from the practice squad this week to fill in for Barnes.
The rest of the Jets' roster is fully healthy entering a highly anticipated Week 1 game against the 49ers. The lights will be shining bright as Aaron Rodgers takes the field for the first time since his unfortunate injury a year ago.
The good news is that Rodgers should have a relatively healthy roster around him.
