The NY Jets have been missing a few key players on defense in recent weeks. However, when it comes to safety Marcus Maye and linebacker Jarrad Davis, the team does seem optimistic that they will return in the near future.

Head coach Robert Saleh spoke to the media on Monday and revealed that they expect both Maye and Davis to return for this week's game. His exact words were "It's looking promising."

Saleh also revealed that left tackle Mekhi Becton is "a few weeks away" from returning and that he's in "pretty good shape." Becton could be on track to return by Week 10 or 11 if all goes according to plan.

Becton has been sidelined since Week 1 with a knee injury, one that many originally feared would be season-ending. But it looks like the young standout tackle could be returning sooner rather than later.

The NY Jets are receiving defensive reinforcements in Marcus Maye and Jarrad Davis

Maye missed the Jets' Week 5 game against the Atlanta Falcons after injuring his ankle the prior week. The original thought was that he could miss multiple games, but the team's bye week seems to have come at a good time for him.

Of course, Maye has made just as many headlines for his off-field situation as he has for his performance on the field this season.

The 28-year-old remains embroiled in a contract dispute with the Jets and has been the center of trade rumors. His departure feels inevitable at this point, and it could come as soon as the trade deadline.

Still, Maye's return, even if it is temporary, will provide a major boost to a Jets defense that's hurting at the safety position.

As for Davis, the Jets signed him in the offseason after four years with the Detroit Lions. The former first-round pick suffered an ankle injury in the preseason and was placed on the injured reserve to begin the year.

Davis has yet to play with the team, although Saleh indicated that he would be given a starting role upon his return, likely at the expense of Quincy Williams who has played well.
