First impressions are everything, not only in the NFL but in all walks of life. For NY Jets rookie wide receiver Garrett Wilson, he's already accomplished step one of his NFL journey.

Make a good first impression? Check.

Wilson has looked the part so far this spring and has impressed the coaching staff, not so much with his on-field performance, but instead with his demeanor and worth ethic.

ESPN's Rich Cimini reported on Monday that Wilson has "exceeded [the Jets'] expectations" this spring. The rookie wideout is planning to stay in Florham Park during the team's six-week break before training camp to work with the conditioning staff.

The Jets have been impressed by his dedication and maturity.

"The coaches like the focus he shows in meetings rooms. The pre-draft vetting process is intensive, but you never really know a player until he's in your building. Wilson has exceeded their expectations in that respect. In fact, he's planning to remain in Florham Park during the six-week break to work with the conditioning staff."

The NY Jets like what they've seen so far from Garrett Wilson

Wilson had a relatively quiet minicamp, although he did make one impressive grab during Tuesday's practice that saw him contort his body to snag a Zach Wilson pass thrown behind him. It's that type of talent that prompted the Jets to select Wilson with the 10th overall pick in this year's draft.

And by all accounts, he was always their top target at the wide receiver position.

A two-year starter at Ohio State, Wilson established himself as one of the best wide receivers in college football earning first-team All-Big Ten honors as a sophomore before being named first-team All-American this past season.

Wilson's game-breaking speed and elite body control are what allow him to stand out on the gridiron, but the Jets have been most impressed with everything he's done away from the field.

As Cimini notes, it's oftentimes difficult to truly gauge the character of a player through pre-draft meetings. The Jets felt good about Wilson's character when they drafted him, but they've been blown away with what they've seen so far.

While the likes of Sauce Gardner and others have impressed on the field, Garrett Wilson has quietly made a strong first impression off it. That certainly bodes well for his future in New York.
