NY Jets Game Today: Jets vs. Panthers injury report, schedule, live stream, TV channel, betting preview for Week 1
By Justin Fried
NY Jets football is back. The Jets will take the field later today in Charlotte as they take on the Carolina Panthers in a game that is sure to provide plenty of intrigue for both sides.
It will be a battle between the scorned and the neophytes. A bittersweet reunion for the ages. And the dawn of a new era for both franchises.
Sam Darnold will make his Panthers debut against the team that cast him aside only a few months ago. He brings with him old/new friend Robby Anderson and former 'almost' Jets head coach Matt Rhule, now coaching in Carolina.
Meanwhile, Zach Wilson will step foot on an NFL field for the first time in the regular season. He, along with Robert Saleh and a host of offseason additions, will usher in a new era for the Jets organization.
Let's take a look at everything you need to know about the Jets' season-opener.
NY Jets injury report vs. Carolina Panthers Week 1
The Jets' injury report for Week 1 is rather short, and it got even shorter when the Jets placed safety Sharrod Neasman on the injured reserve on Saturday. Neasman was the only player officially declared OUT for the game.
Wide receiver Keelan Cole and running back La'Mical Perine are both listed as questionable and Saleh indicated that each would be a game-time decision.
Keelan Cole injury update
Keelan Cole is officially OUT for Week 1 with the veteran wide receiver dealing with a knee injury. Cole was listed as questionable after injuring his knee in Thursday's practice.
NY Jets vs. Carolina Panthers odds and betting pick Week 1
According to WynnBet, the Jets are 3.5-point underdogs to the Panthers on the road. The Panthers have a moneyline of -195 while the Jets' moneyline is listed as +165. The over/under is set at 45.0 points.
The Jets opened as 4.5-point underdogs, but the line has shifted slightly in their favor over the past week. It's always so hard to predict Week 1 games with so many uncertainties for both sides.
If the Jets can pressure Sam Darnold, they have a real chance at winning. But without Carl Lawson, even with a poor Panthers offensive line, I'll predict that Darnold is able to do just enough to earn the 24-21 victory in his Carolina debut.
