Jets failure continues stupefying tour around NFL after joining sixth team

He can't keep getting away with this!

The 2023 NY Jets season began with an Aaron Rodgers injury, and it somehow went down from there. Even after Zach Wilson and Trevor Siemian took snaps, the lowest point of the year came when Tim Boyle, who is somehow one of the most well-traveled veterans in the NFL, had to start at quarterback.

Boyle famously lost both of his starts, throwing one touchdown pass and four interceptions. One of those games was a home loss to the Desmond Ridder-led Falcons after the Jets surrendered just 13 points, and the other was a primetime loss to the Dolphins in which a Hail Mary was somehow returned for a Pick Six.

This should have been the end of Boyle's career, right? Wrong! After being cut in December for unclear reasons, Boyle linked up with the Houston Texans. This marked the fifth team in his career, as he had stints around the NFC North with the Packers, Lions, and Bears prior to joining the Jets.

A sixth team has somehow been swayed by Boyle and his agent, as the Miami Dolphins signed Boyle to their practice squad. Mike McDaniel seems to believe that Boyle can be an upgrade over the recently released Mike White. Miami will learn how wrong they are soon enough.

Former NY Jets QB Tim Boyle somehow stays in NFL, signs with Dolphins

Across two college teams and seven pro seasons, Boyle has thrown just 16 touchdown passes and 38 interceptions. Those are not typos. Boyle went 0-8 as a starter at UConn, throwing a pathetic one touchdown pass against 13 interceptions.

He went 4-7 with more picks (13) than touchdown passes (11 of the previously mentioned 16 total) during his time at FCS Eastern Kentucky.

After somehow lucking into a backup role with the Packers, Boyle played sparingly before moving to the Lions and throwing three touchdowns with six interceptions. In 2022 with the Bears, he threw just eight passes and somehow managed to get two of them picked off.

The Boyle question is even more puzzling the more one looks at it. There are dozens of generic, slow quarterbacks with bad arms that can pick up a playbook quickly.

Why does he keep getting chances? Is it because he's a cool guy and a great teammate? If that is how quarterback depth charts are decided in the NFL, GMs have lost the plot.

If Boyle, who the team cut in December, somehow gets into a game for the Dolphins, the Jets can rest easy knowing Miami will see their high-powered offense neutered by Boyle.
