The NY Jets may have to break open their piggy bank and give Quinnen Williams a hefty contract next year, but the defensive tackle could be well worth the money.
Williams is entering a contract year in 2022 and will presumably look to secure a massive extension with New York, one that could give him the largest contract in Jets history. But first, he has to turn into a superstar. No big deal.
The 2019 first-rounder put together a lackluster rookie season but quickly bounced back and has developed into a mainstay on the defensive line for the last two years.
Williams has recorded 136 combined tackles, 15.5 sacks, and seven passes defended in his Jets career, not to mention he started every game he's played since 2020.
Williams has previously stated that his contract situation is "not a big thing" and that it will "work itself out," but he can't deny the fact that a monster season would see him earn a huge payday.
So far in training camp, Williams is right on track to enjoying a breakthrough on the Jets.

What would a breakout year even look like for Williams?
Williams recorded six sacks last season, so it's not unreasonable to predict double-digit sack totals from him in 2022. He can also improve his numbers across the board for quarterback hits and pressures, and he can prove himself as a truly elite run-stopper with a consecutive top-five finish in total defensive stops this year.
Add a few forced fumbles and turnovers, and Williams will be well on his way to becoming perhaps the highest-paid player in Jets franchise history.
Williams could potentially play on his fifth-year option in 2023, but he'll want to secure the bag as soon as he can. A monster season for Quinnen Williams is loading...
