With two picks in the top-10, the NY Jets will have their fair share of options come the 2022 NFL Draft. But according to one recent report, one player who might be near the top of their list is Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton.
ESPN's Rich Cimini reported on Sunday that the Jets were "high" on the Notre Dame standout insisting that he could be a target for the team with one of their two first-round picks.
Hamilton is widely viewed as one of the best players in this upcoming draft class with most dubbing him the best safety prospect the NFL has seen in a long, long time.
But a safety? In the top-10? With so many other needs at more important positions, would the Jets really consider using one of their first-round picks on Hamilton?
Would the NY Jets really consider drafting Kyle Hamilton?
Hamilton's talent is undeniable. He's a true freak of nature, standing at 6-foot-4, 220 pounds. He blends fantastic size and length with absurd sideline-to-sideline athleticism and a high football IQ to make him a near-perfect safety prospect.
There are few holes in his game, and he has the ability to become an instant difference-maker in any NFL defense. All of that is clear to the Jets and every team in the draft.
But position value matters. The Jets might love Hamilton (how could they not?), but if there's a top offensive line or pass rusher prospect staring them in the face at No. 4 overall, I don't think they pass on them to take Hamilton, despite his obvious talent.
It's tough to predict how the top of the board is going to fall, but at the very least, the Jets will have at least one of either Aidan Hutchinson, Kayvon Thibodeaux, Evan Neal, or Ikem Ekwonu available when they pick. I can't see them taking Hamilton over any of those players.
The only scenario I could imagine where Kyle Hamilton ends up with the Jets is if they trade down or if he's still on the board at pick No. 10. Given that the Jets have two first-rounders, they do have the luxury of using one of them on a non-impact position if the talent is right.
I still wouldn't count on it, and this is likely little more than post-Senior Bowl buzz. After all, what team isn't high on Kyle Hamilton?
The Jets have plenty of options this draft season, but I'd be surprised if Kyle Hamilton was in their plans.
