NY Jets: Denzel Mims named potential breakout player by PFF
By Justin Fried
The NY Jets saw flashes of future greatness out of Denzel Mims in his rookie season, but now as part of a revamped wide receiver room, the pressure is on for Mims to take a big leap in his sophomore NFL season.
And that's something that many see as a real possibility.
Pro Football Focus detailed a handful of potential breakout candidates for the 2021 season in a recent video shared by the New York Jets on YouTube, and Mims was the first name they mentioned.
PFF cited the fact that Mims could succeed in a much better situation in 2021 after being hindered by a poor supporting cast as a rookie.
"Mims was a player hamstrung by poor quarterback play and scheme with the Jets as a rookie, but he has huge potential. If Zach Wilson and the new coaching ticket proves to be the upgrade that it's supposed to be, we could see a major impact from Mims in Year 2."

The NY Jets hope to see Denzel Mims break out in 2021.
Mims was widely seen as one of the best wide receiver prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft class with some even projecting him as a possible first-round pick leading up to the event.
He surprisingly fell to the end of the second round where the Jets quickly scooped him up. Unfortunately, his rookie season was hardly an ideal one.
Mims battled a hamstring injury that sidelined him for most of training camp and the first half of the season. Upon his return, he was placed in the NFL's worst offense led by struggling quarterback Sam Darnold and lackluster head coach Adam Gase.
Few players would have succeeded in a situation like that.
But hopes are high that Mims could live up to his potential in his second NFL season. He'll face a bit more competition this time around though.
The Jets went out and signed Corey Davis and Keelan Cole in free agency before adding Elijah Moore in the 2021 NFL Draft. Davis and Moore should receive plenty of snaps while Cole was working ahead of Mims during OTAs.
Mims isn't going to be handed anything this year. But he has the talent to emerge as a breakout star in 2021.
Now it's all about seeing the results on the field.
