NY Jets vs. Cowboys inactives: Will McDonald a healthy scratch
By Justin Fried
The NY Jets have released their list of seven inactives ahead of their Week 2 meeting with the Dallas Cowboys, and the only slight surprise is rookie first-round pick Will McDonald.
McDonald is a healthy scratch, with veteran Carl Lawson (back) returning this week. The 15th overall pick in this year's draft, McDonald played 13 snaps in his first NFL game but is a victim of a ridiculously deep Jets defensive line group.
The Jets will have nine active defensive linemen in this game, including the likes of Bryce Huff and Micheal Clemons. Both Huff and Clemons played on special teams last week, which is likely part of the reason they are active.
There are no surprises with the other six inactives, although the Jets will notably be without kicker Greg Zuerlein. Zuerlein suffered a groin injury in Thursday's practice and has been ruled out for Week 2.
The Jets signed veteran Austin Seibert to their practice squad and elevated him for this game. Seibert, a former fifth-round pick of the Cleveland Browns, kicked for the Detroit Lions last season.
Rookie running back Israel Abanikanda, wide receiver Jason Brownlee, offensive tackle Max Mitchell, linebacker Zaire Barnes, and cornerback Bryce Hall are the remaining inactives for the Jets.
Abanikanda is inactive for the second consecutive game and will have to wait another week to make his NFL debut. The same is true for fellow rookies Brownlee and Barnes. Barnes is inactive, with the Jets elevating veteran linebacker Sam Eguavoen from the practice squad.
The Jets will dress eight offensive linemen with Mitchell inactive again. Meanwhile, Hall is inactive, with cornerback Brandin Echols returning from his one-game suspension.
