The NY Jets will travel to Denver to take on the struggling Broncos team in Week 7 — a Broncos team that could be without starting quarterback Russell Wilson.

NFL Network's Andrew Siciliano reported on Tuesday that Wilson may have suffered a "fairly significant" hamstring injury in his team's Monday night loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Ian Rapoport later reported that Wilson was day-to-day, a notion later confirmed by Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett. Rapoport insisted that Wilson was in pain, but that he's pushing to play this week against the Jets.

It's far from a guarantee that he gets his way, however, especially with the Broncos playing on a short week. His status will be monitored as the week goes by.

The NY Jets might face a familiar face instead of Russell Wilson in Week 7

If Wilson is unable to play, the Broncos will turn to backup quarterback Brett Rypien. The Jets should be fairly familiar with Rypien as the former undrafted free agent was called on to start a game against New York back in 2020.

In that game, Rypien completed 19-of-31 passes for 242 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions in a 37-28 victory over the Jets. To date, it's the only start of Rypien's NFL career.

Not only would the Jets be familiar with Denver's starter, but the same is true for their backup. If Wilson can't play, the Broncos would likely elevate veteran Josh Johnson from their practice squad to serve as the backup.

Johnson has had two separate stints with the Jets and saw significant action in the team's Week 9 loss to the Indianapolis Colts last year when he threw for 317 yards and three touchdowns.

Wilson has struggled mightily this season, completing just 58 percent of his passes while throwing five touchdowns and three interceptions in six starts. He's looked like one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL, but it's hard to argue that Rypien would be an upgrade.

The Jets have already faced the likes of Jacoby Brissett, Mitch Trubisky, and Skylar Thompson this season. There's a chance they may add another backup quarterback to that list come Sunday.
