Breece Hall reacts to 'criminal' snub from CBS Sports Top 100 list
By Justin Fried
NY Jets running back Breece Hall is one of the best offensive playmakers in the entire NFL. He proved that last season when he finished 2023 with the fourth-most scrimmage yards among all NFL players despite tearing his ACL less than 12 months earlier and playing in arguably the worst offense in football.
You could make a very strong argument that Hall is the second-best running back in the league behind only Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers, and most numbers would support that case.
But for whatever reason, likely a product of him playing in an inept Jets offense, Hall continues to be overlooked. Hall wasn't named to an All-Pro team in 2023 nor was he even named to the Pro Bowl.
Hall wasn't even a finalist for Comeback Player of the Year despite putting together the most impressive post-ACL tear season of any player since Adrian Peterson in his MVP 2012 season.
Now, Hall wasn't just omitted from CBS Sports' list of the top 100 players in the NFL — he wasn't even named one of the 50 honorable mentions. In fact, 10 other running backs either made the list or were an honorable mention. Hall was nowhere to be found.
NY Jets running back Breece Hall is not happy with another embarrassing snub
CBS Sports' Leger Douzable ranted about Hall's glaring omission on Thursday, calling it "criminal" that the Jets running back wasn't even named an honorable mention. Hall took to social media the same day to agree with Douzable's assertion.
Hall proclaimed that there aren't 100 players in the NFL better than he is at this moment, and he has a point. Now, it should be noted that the aforementioned McCaffrey and Derrick Henry were the only two running backs that cracked the top 100, although eight more were named honorable mentions.
Yes, this means that this CBS Sports ranking doesn't even believe Hall is a top-10 running back in the NFL. Let alone the fact that you can make a very convincing argument that he's RB2 in the NFL — CBS Sports doesn't even believe he's top 10 at his position.
The other eight running backs that received honorable mentions were Jonathan Taylor, Jahmyr Gibbs, Saquon Barkley, Aaron Jones, Bijan Robinson, Kyren Williams, Travis Etienne, and Raheem Mostert.
That's an egregiously bad list made even more embarrassing by the omission of Hall. Players like Henry, Barkley, and Jones have no business being ranked ahead of Hall in the year 2024. Etienne averaged 3.8 yards per carry last season behind a much better Jaguars offensive line.
If anything, guys like Robinson and Mostert deserve to be even higher. And, of course, Hall belongs on a list of the top 100 players in the NFL.
Unfortunately, until the Jets start winning and their offense begins to show signs of competency, their players will continue to be overlooked. All Breece Hall can do is continue to play at the level he did last season — the recognition and accolades will eventually follow.
