The NY Jets were treated to one of the best performances by any cornerback this season with Brandin Echols' standout showing in Week 15. That's not hyperbole either.

For his efforts, Echols has been named this week's Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week marking the fourth time a Jets player has won the award. Zach Wilson has won it twice while Elijah Moore received the honor after his Week 11 performance against the Miami Dolphins.

A Jets rookie has won Rookie of the Week in each of the Jets' two games against Miami. As for Echols, he won in a landslide and it's hard to say he didn't deserve it.

The highlight of his day was undoubtedly the fourth-quarter pick-six that marked the first interception from a Jets cornerback this season. But that was hardly his own contribution in the game.

Echols was elite in Week 15. And the numbers support that notion.

NY Jets Brandin Echols was the best NFL cornerback in Week 15

Echols had the highest Pro Football Focus coverage grade of any cornerback in Week 15 (93.3). But it wasn't just the best performance from a cornerback that week, it was one of the best by any cornerback this season.

That 93.3 PFF coverage grade was the fifth-best by any cornerback in any game in 2021. The rookie sixth-round pick was targeted four times allowing just one catch for nine yards.

His two pass breakups were tied for fourth in the NFL this week behind only Bryce Hall and two others who recorded three. And perhaps his most impressive stat, Echols allowed a passer rating of 0.0 when targeted.

Again, it isn't hyperbole to say that Echols had one of the best performances from any cornerback this season and probably the best game from a Jets player in 2021.

Echols has played well in his return from injury and is looking to establish himself as someone the Jets can build around moving forward.

More games like this one will go a long way toward helping him accomplish that goal.
