NY Jets may have just accidentally spoiled Haason Reddick's return
By Justin Fried
The ongoing Haason Reddick saga has dragged on longer than anyone could have anticipated, and as the NY Jets approach their Week 4 game against the Denver Broncos, there still doesn't appear to be an end in sight.
At least, until now.
Eagle-eyed Jets fans who frequently check the team's website and official shop for merchandise noticed something very peculiar on Thursday. Reddick's No. 7 jersey is now available to purchase and is even listed under the "new arrivals" section of the shop.
It's unclear if this is some sort of logistical/technical error or if it's a sign of things to come, but that hasn't stopped Jets fans from running wild with speculation on social media.
Are the NY Jets about to finally solve their Haason Reddick problem?
Jets fans who frequent the team's official shop swear that Reddick's jersey was not previously available to purchase. This would explain why his jersey is listed under the "new arrivals" section of the website, implying it was just added as a new item.
Reddick remains away from the team and has accumulated nearly $9 million in fines dating back to his mandatory minicamp in June. The All-Pro edge rusher has missed the Jets' first three games of the season and is all but confirmed to miss at least one more this Sunday.
The 10-day gap between the Jets' Week 3 and Week 4 games felt like the best chance the team had of resolving this situation for the foreseeable future, but as the days have gone on, there has been silence on all fronts.
The story is the same. The Jets won't negotiate with Reddick until he shows up and Reddick won't show up without a new contract. Thus, we're at a stalemate.
The Jets' pass rush has performed just fine in Reddick's absence, ranking third in the NFL in total sacks entering Week 4. That's with the team also losing Jermaine Johnson for the season to a torn Achilles.
Still, it would be nice to have the Jets' biggest offseason acquisition in the building in what is supposed to be an all-in season. The Jets are trying to win a Super Bowl and Reddick is one of the most talented players on the roster. They're a better team with him than without him.
It remains to be seen if this latest development (if you want to call it that) is anything other than a momentary pipedream, but Jets fans are certainly hoping it means something.
I just wouldn't go about buying any Haason Reddick Jets jerseys until he officially shows up. Not financial advice — just some general common sense.
*Update: The Jets have since removed Reddick's jersey from their official team shop*
