NY Jets: 5 pass rushers to trade for including Chandler Jones
By Justin Fried
3. NY Jets trade target: Dante Fowler (Atlanta Falcons)
The Jets have been connected to Dante Fowler in various trade/free agency rumors numerous times over the years. But if it were to ever happen, now seems like a very plausible time.
The Atlanta Falcons restructured Fowler's contract in the offseason to void the final year of his contract making him a free agent after this upcoming season.
And with Atlanta not looking to compete this year, they could opt to move Fowler if the Jets come calling.
The third overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Fowler never exactly lived up to his draft status. Nonetheless, he's developed into a quality pass rusher who had a breakout year with the Los Angeles Rams in 2019.
He only mustered three sacks in 14 games last season, but that was partially due to a lackluster Falcons front seven.
Perhaps more importantly, he has connections with multiple key members of the Jets' coaching staff. Fowler spent last year working under new Jets defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich in Atlanta and he crossed paths with Robert Saleh in Jacksonville in 2016.
Could this be the year that the Jets finally acquire Dante Fowler? It's certainly an option they could consider.
