The NY Jets remain embroiled in a longstanding contract dispute with star pass rusher Haason Reddick, and by the looks of things, that dispute doesn't appear to be reaching a resolution anytime soon.

Reddick has now accumulated over $9 million in total fines and the Jets don't seem to be any closer to budging on their original stance. The Jets don't want to negotiate with Reddick until he shows up and Reddick doesn't plan to show up without a new deal.

This stalemate has led to some unique proposals in an effort to find some sort of solution. One idea thrown around would see the Jets trade Reddick back to the Philadelphia Eagles, possibly involving a swap for Bryce Huff, who is struggling with his new team.

ESPN's Rich Cimini even reported last week that Reddick would be open to returning to the Eagles. Unfortunately, that isn't going to happen. The NFL actually has a rule that prevents it.

Why the NY Jets can't trade Haaspn Reddick to the Eagles

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport noted on Monday that the NFL prevents teams from trading a player and then reacquiring them via trade until two years elapse. This means the Jets are unable to send Reddick back to Philadelphia.

The only way the Eagles would be able to acquire Reddick would be if the Jets were to terminate his contract, which isn't going to happen. Reddick might be open to an Eagles return, the NFL isn't going to let it happen.

That doesn't mean Reddick still won't be traded, however. The former All-Pro requested a trade from the Jets this past August, and while he doesn't have much leverage in the current situation, the Jets might simply look to rid themselves of the headache before the deadline passes in early November.

Reddick likely isn't going to hold out through the entire 2024 season if he isn't traded. He has until the Tuesday following Week 10 to report or else his contract tolls to 2025 and the Jets retain his rights. Reddick hasn't operated with the use of logic to this point, but even that scenario seems hard to envision.

This means the Jets will either trade Reddick before the deadline or he will be forced to show up in a couple of months. Whether he actually plays a game for the Jets, however, remains to be seen.

It's very possible the Jets will trade Reddick at some point, but it won't be to the Eagles. The Reddick-for-Huff dream swap scenarios can officially be put to rest.
