WR Khalil Shakir named an 'ideal prospect' for the NY Jets at the Senior Bowl
By Kristen Wong
The NY Jets have the cream of the crop when it comes to picking players in the 2022 NFL Draft, but there's an under-the-radar prospect who could fit in surprisingly well.
New York has made wise draft choices before, nabbing the likes of Alijah Vera-Tucker and Elijah Moore, and in 2022 the Jets will likely use their highest picks on needs at pass rusher and on the offensive line.
Going into the later rounds, though, the Jets could take a chance on wide receiver Khalil Shakir.
The Boise State product has shown great speed and athleticism as a play-making receiver and could thrive in most offensive schemes.
FanSided's Sayre Bedinger listed every NFL team's ideal Senior Bowl prospect in 2022 and paired Shakir with the Jets.
"Shakir adding another gear to his explosiveness in 2021 is a fantastic development, and what he already does in the YAC department and when he gets the ball out of the backfield might have the Jets thinking about him as a Deebo Samuel-lite."

The NY Jets may want to take a flyer on Boise State wideout Khalil Shakir
Bedinger touches upon Shakir's "explosiveness" and yards after the catch, which appear to be Shakir's main selling points. The comparison to Deebo Samuel might be a bit much, though.
Pro Football Network's Scouting Report echoes Bedinger's sentiments, focusing on Shakir's strengths at the catch point by which he can "control and contort his body with rare, natural comfort in the air" and "make acrobatic catches even amidst contact."
Hopes for Elijah Moore remain high, but Zach Wilson could always use more reliable targets to further develop his passing game. Shakir positions himself as more of a Round 4-7 player at the moment but his talents shouldn't be overlooked.
Every draft has its later-round gems — teams just have to mine for them.
