Over the course of their history, the New York Jets have changed their look a few times. But, one thing has continued to remain since 1963.
Back in that year, the legend of the Kelly green and white was born. However, over the years, the Jets would go on to make some changes, here and there. To their credit, the organization is simply wanting to try and keep up with the times and market to the upcoming generations, all while attempting to keep part of their rich history intact with the color scheme.
In 2019, New York switched their uniforms to the "Take Flight" model, leaving a lot of fans wishing for the days of old in no time. However, this week, the team announced they would bring back the classic.
Clarification: The Jets brought back modified versions of Kelly green uniforms as part of a rebrand this season, but not the old-school logo.
For one night during the 2024 season, the Jets will be going retro, sporting the old school Kelly green and white "JETS" logo with the iconic, white "NY" in the background.
What better game to kick it old school than on Monday Night Football against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills? If health is on both sides, then we're going to see Allen face off against Aaron Rodgers, as a Jet, for the first time -- err, second time, technically.
Last year, in Week 1, Rodgers did start the game against Buffalo, until his season was ended in an extremely premature manner, of course.
The Jets need to make a uniform change, once again
Not only should this uniform be brought back for a Monday Night Football contest in 2024, it should stay -- for good. In fact, let's take this a step further and not only say this should be a permanent look, but how about the team makes it interesting.
If the Jets come away victorious against the Bills in this MNF showdown, they were those uniforms the rest of the season.
Why not?
Twice, the Jets have gone away from the classic look. And, if you were to ask a large pool of Jets fans, I'd assume the healthy majority would prefer that look over the newer, shinier "Take Flight" model.
Since going to the newer look, the Jets haven't done much of anything, anyway. Why not try and harness the luck of past legends like Curtis Martin and Joe Namath?
It couldn't hurt, and boy would it look pretty.
