Jeremy Ruckert named NY Jets' 'surprise rookie gem' for 2022

The NY Jets have a very talented tight end room this year compared to last year, but they could have an ultra special rookie weapon in Jeremy Ruckert.

Selected in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Ruckert adds depth to an already impressive tight end unit consisting of C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Conklin.

The Jets did their research this offseason in adding two very capable pass-catching tight ends, and while Ruckert could end up helping more in the blocking game, he may still make a sizeable impact.

Bleacher Report's Ian Wharton predicted every team's surprise rookie gem this season and chose Ruckert for the Jets.

"Ruckert can still be a surprise gem even in a reduced role. He finished each of his last three seasons at Ohio State in the 77th percentile or higher in PFF's run-blocking grades for tight ends and dropped just two passes in his career (h/t Jet X's Michael Nania). He's used to making the most of his opportunities in a small-volume role and will be in a similar position to start his NFL career. "

NY Jets' Jeremy Ruckert has the potential to break out in 2022

New York enters a watershed season in 2022 in which Zach Wilson will get another chance to prove himself as the franchise quarterback the Jets hope he can be.

Wilson will need all the help he can get from his offensive weapons, which include Elijah Moore, Garrett Wilson, and a solid tight-end corps. What exactly can Ruckert offer?

As stated before, given Uzomah's and Conklin's pass-catching ability, Ruckert may learn more blocking assignments and be relied upon for facilitating the run game or helping his wideouts get more open looks.

The Ohio State product signed with his dream team, having grown up a diehard Jets fan on Long Island, and will look to make an immediate impact in Year 1.

Ruckert could quickly become a fan favorite in New York — and perhaps a regular starter — if he plays his cards right this season.
