The NFL world has taken Zach Wilson's recent struggles as an opportunity to pile on the NY Jets, as is commonplace with this franchise. Whenever the opportunity presents itself to clown the Jets, you'd best believe people will flock to share their thoughts and poke fun at the organization.

Such was the case with former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf who took an unprompted shot at the Jets in a response to the Wilson situation.

Dave Kluge of FootballGuys tweeted out a screenshot of the first 14 picks in the 2021 NFL Draft with a caption that read "In hindsight, it’s unbelievable how hard the Jets fumbled the bag," in reference to the Wilson pick.

One Jets fan compared Wilson to Leaf insisting that he couldn't believe his favorite team drafted "Mormon Ryan Leaf." Someone must've informed Leaf of this comment because he went on to reply with a simple yet savage "Yes you can, you’re the Jets. It’s what you do."

After the Twitter user clapped back at Leaf, the former second-overall pick took a shot at all Jets fans while highlighting the team's struggles over the last decade.

"I’ve had a better life then Jets fans the last decade and I spent 3 of those years in prison, respectfully of course."

The Jets have worked hard to shed the "Same Old Jets" narrative this season. From their 6-3 start to blowout victories over the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field and Miami Dolphins to their win over the Buffalo Bills, the Jets have somewhat changed the narrative.

But following their ugly 10-3 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday, many took to social media to bash the team's quarterback. Wilson's struggles have been well-documented this season and he's had no shortage of critics.

Those criticisms aren't going to die down anytime soon, however, especially after the second-year quarterback was officially benched in favor of Mike White on Wednesday.

The Jets aren't going to change their public perception until they start winning games with consistent quarterback play. If the opportunity to make fun of the team presents itself, people are going to grab the low-hanging fruit. That's just the reality of the situation.

Ryan Leaf wasn't the first and he won't be the last to kick the Jets while they're down. Only time will tell if the Jets (and Zach Wilson) can fully change the narrative.
