Dez Bryant: NY Jets will 'put the NFL on notice' in 2023
By Justin Fried
The NY Jets may not know who their quarterback is just yet, but they proved in 2022 that they're a bit ahead of schedule. A disappointing six-game losing streak to end the season is fresh in the minds of many, but it's important not to ignore the progress the Jets made this past season.
The Jets played meaningful December and January games. They were in the thick of a playoff race almost until the very last week of the season, despite receiving the worst quarterback play in the NFL.
It's that very reason that many are bullish on the Jets entering the 2023 offseason. One such individual is former NFL wide receiver Dez Bryant.
Bryant tweeted out a list of five teams he believes will "put the NFL on notice" in 2023, and he listed the Jets at No. 2, just behind the Jacksonville Jaguars. Evidently, Bryant is pretty high on the Jets.
The NY Jets are a trendy pick to make the playoffs in 2023
Bryant isn't alone in his assessment. The Jets have become a trendy dark-horse pick to not only make the playoffs in 2023, but to actually be contenders.
The latest Super Bowl odds from DraftKings list the Jets at +2800, giving them the ninth-best odds in the entire NFL to win the Lombardi Trophy next season. Of course, much of this is dependent on what the Jets do at the quarterback position.
The Vegas oddsmakers are likely assuming the Jets land a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers or Derek Carr. If that happens, the Jets are genuine contenders next season. On the other hand, if they end up with a quarterback like Jimmy Garoppolo or Ryan Tannehill, those odds will likely decrease.
Either way, Vegas clearly seems to believe that the Jets are a quarterback away from being contenders. That's a testament to the roster that general manager Joe Douglas has built over the last few years.
With a top-tier defense featuring playmakers like Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams and a promising offensive skill position group that includes the likes of Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall, it's no wonder why many are optimistic about the Jets in 2023.
But before we get ahead of ourselves, the Jets must first find a quarterback. It doesn't matter how good the roster is if the Jets don't have someone to run the offense. We saw exactly that last season.
