Chiefs LB says NY Jets are in 'panic mode,' takes subtle shot at Zach Wilson

It should go without saying, but NFL teams don't currently fear Zach Wilson and the NY Jets offense. That much was made abundantly clear when Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay was asked about Wilson on Wednesday.

When asked about what he's seen from Wilson and the Jets' offense, Gay paused for a few moments, holding back a laugh, before saying that was a difficult question to answer.

Gay then responded that he sees "a team that wants to run the ball." He later went on to say that the Jets turned into a team "in panic mode" after Aaron Rodgers' injury earlier this month.

Gay was complimentary of the Jets' running backs, and he insisted that the team is clearly leaning on their ground game with Rodgers out. Still, it certainly says something that, when asked a question about Zach Wilson, Gay chose to talk about the Jets' running game instead.

It's been a difficult few days for Wilson, who has found himself in the crosshairs of numerous fans, analysts, and even former players. Jets legend Joe Namath was highly critical of the third-year quarterback earlier this week, calling his performance on Sunday "awful" and "disgusting."

For an ultimate Jets optimist like Namath to come out and say what he said this week, that says a lot about Wilson's current situation. He's become the laughingstock of the NFL, and the Jets continue to trot him out at quarterback.

A QB change could be coming in the near future after the Jets signed veteran Trevor Siemian on Tuesday. For now, however, it'll be Wilson leading the team into a Sunday Night Football showdown with the Chiefs this weekend.

Evidently, it doesn't appear as though the Chiefs' defense has many concerns about the offense they're up against. It's hard to blame them, either. The Jets' offense currently ranks dead last in the NFL in total yards and points scored. It's the worst offense in football.

Wilson is largely to blame for the Jets' offensive struggles, and everyone from Joe Namath to Willie Gay knows it.

Expect the Jets to follow Gay's gameplan as much as they can on Sunday, as they will likely attempt to lean on Breece Hall and Dalvin Cook. Unfortunately, that strategy hasn't really worked to this point, and it's hard to imagine it'll start working this weekend.
