While we’ve seen a lot of Aaron Rodgers on Hard Knocks, we won’t be seeing him against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the New York Jets third preseason game.
If we are going to see him at all it will be next week against the New York Giants, but for now let’s see how the Jets will respond after a 27-0 win over the Carolina Panthers last week.
The Bucs dropped their first preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and didn’t have a lot of starters out there for it. The battle wages on between Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask, but their supporting cast likely won’t be on the field with them much this week.
Let’s check out the odds for the Jets and Bucs.
Buccaneers vs. Jets odds, spread and total
Buccaneers vs. Jets prediction and pick
Last week, the Jets pass rush dominated against the Panthers with five sacks. Rookie, Will McDonald IV had a sack and was arguably the most destructive member of their loaded defensive line. Jermaine Johnson also pressured the quarterback quite a bit.
New York is so deep at edge rusher that it has multiple high-pedigree players who are getting preseason snaps. That’s not good news for the Buccaneers.
Tampa Bay allowed four sacks against the Steelers in their preseason debut and that was without Alex Highsmith, Cam Heyward or TJ Watt taking a snap. The Jets will be very disruptive in this one.
Tampa Bay’s offense won’t function all that well regardless of pressure because Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask will be trying to operate it. Neither looked particularly good against backups a week ago and Tampa Bay played a lot of backups themselves.
Wide receiver Trey Palmer was impressive with four grabs for 33 yards and a touchdown.
With Mayfield and Zach Wilson I’m not sure how many more draft busts you could want. A game with those two taking snaps at quarterback sounds like an under to me.
