The NY Jets raised some eyebrows when they traded up to select Iowa State running back Breece Hall in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Despite the presence of young running back Michael Carter, the Jets believed strongly enough in Hall's talent and potential that they felt comfortable adding him to the roster. Needless to say, they believe he can be one of the best running backs in the league.
They're not the only ones who feel that way either. On the latest episode of the Badlands podcast, Joe Caporoso and Connor Rogers discussed Hall and his potential ceiling in the NFL.
Rogers went as far as to compare Hall to Jets legend Curtis Martin, saying that he was the most talented running back the organization had rostered since the future Hall of Famer.
The NY Jets have high hopes for Breece Hall in 2022
That's certainly some high praise given the talent the Jets have had at the running back position in recent years. Players like Thomas Jones and Chris Ivory come to mind, and to a lesser extent, the likes of Bilal Powell and even LaDainian Tomlinson.
Rogers is insisting that Hall has more raw talent than any of them, and truth be told, many would agree.
Hall was widely seen as the top running back in this year's class and a first-round talent on paper. The Jets reportedly had Hall ranked as a top-20 player on their board — they view him in the same way they view their other three first-round pickers.
The two-time Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year will likely be asked to take on the lion's share of touches this season. He'll still be splitting reps with Carter, but it seems abundantly clear that this will be Hall's backfield moving forward.
Hall set records at Iowa State becoming the first Unanimous All-American selection in school history while racking up over 3,000 yards and 41 touchdowns over his final two seasons.
NFL stardom runs in his blood too as his cousin is former San Francisco 49ers running back, Roger Craig. Hall will look to follow in the footsteps of not only his older cousin but every Jets running back that's come before him.
The Jets believe that Breece Hall has the chance to be something special. Only time will tell if their prophecy comes true.
