Breece Hall fantasy: Will the NY Jets star RB be ready for Week 1?
By Justin Fried
The NY Jets are hoping to see their star running back, Breece Hall, return to full strength in 2023, and fantasy owners are hoping to see the same. Thankfully all signs point to Hall being ready for Week 1.
The 2022 second-round pick suffered a torn ACL in the Jets' Week 7 win over the Denver Broncos last season, cutting short an incredibly promising rookie campaign. A little over seven months since the injury, Hall is progressing well in his rehab.
The Jets have remained optimistic about Hall's chances of being ready for Week 1, and on Wednesday, Jets head coach Robert Saleh reaffirmed the team's confidence.
Saleh told reporters that the team is "very optimistic" that Hall will be on the field for the Jets' season-opener against the Buffalo Bills in September. Hall later remarked that he "feels like" himself again.
Breece Hall fantasy owners rejoice — the NY Jets running back should be ready for Week 1
Hall's return will be a welcome site for both the Jets and fantasy owners who are hoping to see the second-year running back pick up where he left off last season.
In just seven games, Hall averaged a phenomenal 5.8 yards per carry, rushing for 463 yards and four touchdowns while adding 19 catches for 218 yards and a score in the air.
Despite playing more than 50 percent of the Jets' offensive snaps in just four games, Hall ranked top-10 in scrimmage yards at the time of his injury. He was one of the most explosive offensive playmakers in the league.
Hall is currently hovering outside the top 10 running backs in most fantasy rankings. CBS Sports' consensus ranking has him as RB13, Fantasy Pros has him as high as RB10, and ESPN has him all the way down at RB18.
If Hall could regain the form he showed prior to his injury last season, it's very easy to imagine a scenario in which he finishes as a top-10 fantasy running back this year. His ceiling is likely top-five.
The Jets, of course, added Aaron Rodgers this offseason, which should only serve to benefit Hall, both in the passing and running game. Teams won't be able to stack the box against the Jets as they did for a lot of last season.
Expect Hall to be on somewhat of a pitch count early in the year, with players like Michael Carter, Zonovan Knight, and rookie Israel Abanikanda competing for snaps. However, it might not be long before Hall regains his full bell-cow role in the Jets' offense.
A healthy Breece Hall is one of the best running backs in the NFL. Fantasy owners should be very encouraged by the progress he's made in his recovery from injury this offseason.
