It wasn't easy, but winning rarely is. The NY Jets found a way to escape with a 24-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans in Week 2 on the back of a breakout performance from rookie running back Braelon Allen.
Allen led the way with two touchdowns for the Jets a week after playing just one non-garbage-time snap in his NFL debut. This week, he was a focal point of the Jets' offense.
While Breece Hall and Aaron Rodgers had their moments, Hall accounted for 12 of the Jets' 24 points, finishing with seven carries for 32 yards and a touchdown on the ground, and two catches for 23 yards in the air.
The Jets have found a new playmaker on offense, and he just so happens to be the youngest player in the NFL. Braelon Allen is the real deal.
Braelon Allen makes history in NY Jets Week 2 win
Allen became the youngest NFL player to score a touchdown from scrimmage in nearly 100 years when he found pay dirt for the first time on Sunday. If that wasn't enough, he did it again shortly after.
A fourth-round pick in this year's draft, Allen entered the summer competing for the RB2 job behind Hall. He not only ran away (no pun intended) with that job but he proved that he should be a part of the offense moving forward.
In a game in which the Jets' defense started slow and the offense sputtered at times, Allen was one of the few constant positives. The Jets' offense needs playmakers, and Allen appears to be a big-time playmaker.
Rodgers finished the game completing 18-of-30 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns. While he didn't light up the stat sheet, Rodgers and the Jets were safe with the football, winning the turnover battle and ultimately winning the game.
The Jets probably would have preferred a more convincing win over an opponent they should be much better than, at least on paper. But a win is a win. It's never easy to win in the NFL, especially on the road.
The Jets did just that on Sunday and may have discovered a budding offensive star in the process.
