2. Garrett Wilson, WR, NY Jets
Another player who should benefit tremendously from the Aaron Rodgers project in Week 1 will be superstar receiver Garrett Wilson.
Wilson, who won Offensive Rookie of the Year last year while playing with a plethora of backups and practice squad-level players, has been automatic during the preseason. Despite not playing much in the preseason games, the connection between Rodgers and Wilson has been evident in practice.
The two also connected for three catches for 30 yards and a touchdown in their only two preseason drives against the Giants. If that was any indication of the target share that Wilson should expect, it should mean great things for fantasy owners.
In the win at home against Buffalo last year, Wilson posted eight catches for 92 yards. Although not finding the endzone, that target share and yard production this year should produce a score. Even in the loss, Wilson still posted six catches for 78 yards, good for over 13 fantasy points.
Wilson is pretty much a defense-proof player this year, as he is projected to score 16.5 fantasy points in ESPN PPR leagues this year. If he can score a touchdown, he should easily exceed this projection, even against a good Buffalo defense.
Once again, my final projection for Garrett Wilson looks something like eight catches for 89 yards and a touchdown — good for 22.9 fantasy points in PPR scoring.
