NY Jets fans have waited 17 long months for Aaron Rodgers to lead his first touchdown drive for their favorite team. After months of anticipation and over a year of waiting for his recovery, Rodgers has done just that.
The Jets' offense got off to a shaky start in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers with an Allen Lazard drop and a Breece Hall fumble stalling the team's first two possesions. But once Rodgers got in a rhythm, the Jets' offense started cooking.
Rodgers led a 12-play, 70-yard touchdown drive to give the Jets an early 7-3 lead over the 49ers. The drive was highlighted by four passes to Garrett Wilson that totaled 45 yards and capped off by a Hall rushing touchdown.
Rodgers is back, and the Jets may be too.
Aaron Rodgers' first touchdown with the NY Jets is in the books
The Jets acquired Rodgers in a trade in April of 2023 with the expectation that the four-time MVP would help make the team legitimate Super Bowl contenders. Unfortunately, we all know how his first season with the organization transpired.
Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles just four plays into his first game as a member of the Jets. The injury sidelined him for the entire 2023 season and derailed any hopes the Jets had of contending.
But now, Rodgers is back, and the optimism around the organization has returned. The Jets are the consensus betting favorites to win the AFC East entering the 2024 season for the first time this century. Much of that is because of Rodgers.
The Jets are hoping that Rodgers can help the team not only end their 13-year playoff drought but perhaps take them on a lengthy postseason run. The Super Bowl is the goal for this Jets team.
If Rodgers and the Jets' offense are going to look like this, they may be able to reach that goal. Rodgers looks like he's back.
