NY Jets fans desperate to see No. 11 overall pick Olu Fashanu in action will finally see their wishes come true in the next few weeks. An injury to right tackle Morgan Moses will sideline the veteran for multiple games, opening a hole for Fashanu to get some reps.

While Fashanu is switching from left tackle to right tackle, expectations are still very high. With Fashanu regarded as a better pass blocker than run blocker during his time at Penn State, the emphasis was clearly on making sure Aaron Rodgers was kept upright and able to throw darts all over the field.

Rodgers was very complementary of Fashanu, who made his NFL debut in limited action against the New England Patriots. Fans had better hope what Rodgers said of Fashanu becomes reality, as he earned a comparison to one of the greatest Jets offensive linemen ever.

Though Rodgers himself admitted he is typically not a fam of comparing players, he does believe that Fashanu reminds him of D'Brickashaw Ferguson. If Fashanu turns out to be half the player Ferguson was, the Jets can count the No. 11 overall pick as a massive success story.

A three-time Pro Bowler, Ferguson never missed a game, started 160 consecutive contests, and sat out just one offensive snap out of 10,708 in his career. The No. 4 overall pick out of Virginia lived up to every expectation the Jets had for him, and then some.

Fashanu came out of Penn State earning rave reviews for his power in pass protection, light feet for his size, and tremendous athletic ability. Even though he is filling in for Moses and could return to a backup role, the Jets have high hopes for Fashanu going forward.

Tyron Smith is the best veteran mentor the Jets could have possibly picked up for Fashanu, and the Jets are eventually planning for Fashanu to take over at left tackle when Smith decides to part ways. Until then, the Jets can smooth out the rough edges in Fashanu's game.

Rodgers is always one to throw out a positive quote when things are going good, and picking Ferguson as a point of comparison was assuredly done to throw some chum to the fans, but Fashanu's talent is certainly present. The Jets will get their first extended looks at Fashanu in the next few games.
