The pads officially came on for the first time during Monday's NY Jets training camp practice, and after the offense had won most of the first week of camp, the defense returned the favor. Aaron Rodgers was not a happy camper.

Much of the reason for the Jets' offensive struggles on Monday was due to a troubling performance from starting center Joe Tippmann, whose frequent poor snaps contributed to the offense's shortcomings and angered his starting quarterback.

Those in attendance counted as many as a half dozen high snaps from Tippmann throughout the course of practice. The second-year center worked off to the side with Rodgers while the backups were on the field, but the issues seemed to persist.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters after practice that "there’s clearly something going on" with Tippmann but that he's confident he will be able to fix it. This was probably the most upset Rodgers has been all offseason, at least visibly on the field.

Should NY Jets fans be concerned about Joe Tippmann?

The concerning part about Tippmann's snap issues is that this isn't a new development so much as it's becoming a troubling trend. The Wisconsin product struggled with his snaps last summer and ran into some issues throughout the regular season.

The Jets didn't run a ton of shotgun in 2023 due to their offensive limitations, which perhaps masked some of Tippmann's issues. But that's expected to change this season with Rodgers back in the fold. This is something Tippmann is going to need to clean up.

The good news is that it's still only July. It's much better to run into problems like this early in the summer when there's still plenty of time to correct them. That said, the fact that this isn't a new issue is troubling.

The Jets also don't have another natural center on the roster that Tippmann can lean on. Wes Schweitzer is more of a natural guard while the likes of Jake Hanson, Chris Glaser, and Xavier Newman should only play center in a pinch. It would be nice to have a veteran center to help out.

The Jets are high on Tippmann's potential after a promising 2023 campaign saw him earn All-Rookie honors. There is optimism that he can take another step forward in his second NFL season, but he has to work on the fundamentals first.

Rodgers was not happy with the continued snap issues in Monday's practice, and you'd better believe he communicated that with Tippmann. This is a situation to monitor.
