The 2024 NFL season is nearly a month old, and the NY Jets still haven't seen any piece of Haason Reddick amid his holdout. Reddick has been trying to force the Jets into giving him a new deal, but all that has come as a result is Reddick burning more than $8 million in lost game checks and fines.

The Jets, meanwhile, are in good spirits. Despite Jermaine Johnson's season-ending injury, Aaron Rodgers has the team at 2-1 and fresh of a primetime demolition of the hated rival New England Patriots. The vibes are good, which isn't the story The Athletic wanted to tell in the offseason.

The Athletic reported that agents around the league called the Jets a dysfunctional mess in "complete disarray" before the season, In Rodgers' latest appearance on the Pat McAfee show, he used that article to get in a few barbs at Reddick agent as the holdout threatens to drag into October.

Rodgers said he never read the article, but believes that it was "written by Haason Reddick's agent" after just reading the headline. With Jets teammates making jokes about Reddick as the team moved on to a 2-1 record, this holdout has been a nightmare for his career.

The dynamics of this staring contest have not changed since the offseason. Reddick is not going to show up until he gets a long-term contract, and the Jets are not willing to negotiate until he shows up. The result has pushed players like Will McDonald and Takk McKinley into important roles.

Reddick's agent, Tory Dandy, has negotiated big deals for clients like CeeDee Lamb and Patrick Surtain II. Somehow, he has been stonewalled by Joe Douglas.

While the Jets have certainly benefitted from playing across from some very poor offensive lines in the Patriots and Tennessee Titans, the pass rush has still been relentless. The Jets are tied for second in the NFL in sacks with 14; only the Vikings have more.

McDonald, meanwhile, is second in the NFL in sacks with 5.0, as only Detroit's Aidan Hutchinson has more sacks in the first few games than him. While Reddick would be a major boost to this defense, defensive mastermind Robert Saleh is figuring out how to generate pressure without him.

While the Jets deserve some blame for this situation, Reddick is primarily at fault. His holdout has now reached comical levels, as even the mighty and always positive Rodgers seems to feel confident ripping Reddick's agent.
