2. Zach Wilson, QB, NY Jets
The NY Jets likely don't plan to trade Zach Wilson, and if he does get dealt, I wouldn't expect it to be before draft day. However, a Wilson trade during the 2023 NFL Draft shouldn't be ruled out.
The Jets have publicly insisted that they remain committed to developing Wilson and that they hope he reaches his ceiling in New York. That's what they say, but it's not how the organization internally feels about the former No. 2 overall pick.
The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt reported last week that the Jets have already mentally "moved on" from the idea that Wilson could be the team's long-term quarterback solution. He doesn't have a future with the team.
The Jets will need to make a decision on Wilson's fifth-year option next offseason, and it's pretty much a guarantee that they won't pick it up. You could argue the only reason he's even guaranteed a roster spot is due to his salary — the Jets can't cut him.
They can, however, trade him, and I would fully expect them to do so if the right offer came along. Trading him before June 1st would cost the Jets, but a post-June 1st trade would save the team almost $4 million.
It might be worth it if the Jets receive an offer that meets their valuation. It's hard to imagine that Wilson's trade value is anything significant at this point, but getting his contract off the books makes sense.
The Jets could also add a developmental quarterback during the 2023 NFL Draft — someone with a much smaller contract and an extra year or two of team control. That's more valuable than keeping around a player the organization has already mentally moved on from.
Ultimately, a Wilson trade is unlikely, simply because there won't exactly be a large market for him, but if some team is willing to bite, the Jets might not hesitate.
