The NY Jets placed a lot of stock in Zach Wilson when they selected him No. 2 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, and Robert Saleh made him a promise, that this organization would lift him up, not the other way around.
While we've yet to see that on the field, the moves that New York has made this offseason support that sentiment as they've added talent at every position on the offense, putting this team in a position to be a great team on that side of the ball in 2022.
Despite the improvements, which include adding Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall, Jeremy Ruckert, Tyler Conklin, and C.J. Uzomah, plus talent on the offensive line, there are still some very tough defenses in the NFL.
All the Jets' potential improvement hinges on No. 2, however, and if he can take the next step, we could be looking at a playoff squad in New York. But these five defenses certainly won't make that leap an easy one for the Jets.
1. A division rival will be the toughest defense the NY Jets face in 2022
The Jets have a tough 2022 schedule, there's no disputing that. Unfortunately for the up-and-coming Jets, one of four teams that appears on both the best offense and defense list is a division rival that they will have to face twice on that schedule.
Despite having a high-powered offense led by arguably the most talented QB in the league, the Bills' biggest strength may be their defense. If the Jets come into this game anywhere under 100 percent healthy and ready to fire, it could be bad.
With talent at all three levels, this Bills defense is going to terrorize opposing quarterbacks all year long, and while Zach Wilson will hopefully improve massively in 2022, facing this defense twice could do a lot of damage to his potential breakout campaign.
