5 running backs the NY Jets could target in the 2022 NFL Draft
By Nathan Smith
The NY Jets struck gold in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft by taking North Carolina's Michael Carter, and while he definitely looks like the Jets back of the future, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to find him a running mate.
The Jets don't have to use one of their top-four picks on a running back, but with the pure depth of talent at the position in the upcoming draft, they’ll be able to find quality all the way up until day three.
With Tevin Coleman around to mentor young running backs, another home run pick on Day 2 or 3 could see the Jets have this position secured for the next 5-10 years, and that has to be exciting for fans.
It’s hard to predict exactly when and who the Jets will target to join Carter in the backfield, but here are five players that the Jets could certainly target next week on draft night.
1. The NY Jets could target Breece Hall
In three years at Iowa State, Breece Hall amassed almost 5,000 all-purpose yards with 56 total touchdowns. If the Jets are looking for a long-term partner for Michael Carter, that consistent production should convince anyone.
Hall can do it all out of the backfield, with great speed, explosiveness, elusiveness, and a propensity for the big play. While the Jets may have to move early to secure him, it would certainly be a worthwhile investment if that's the route they do want to go.
Physicality at times can be a weakness of Hall, but with so many other strengths, he is going to take the NFL by storm and be productive from day one. It’s scary to think how much help Zach Wilson would have with these two in the backfield together.
