The NY Jets are set to kick off their three-day mandatory minicamp today. The event will run from June 11-13 and is scheduled to be the final stop until training camp officially begins next month.
After this week, Jets players will have over a month off before training camp arrives and the 2024 season is fully in swing. Before then, however, minicamp serves an important purpose.
This is the first mandatory event of the year, giving the Jets' coaching staff a closer look at (hopefully) every member of the roster. Consider it an extension and more intense version of OTAs.
With mandatory minicamp officially underway, let's take a look at five Jets players who have the most to prove this week.
5. Will McDonald, DE, NY Jets
The Jets let Bryce Huff walk in free agency and traded John Franklin-Myers away for nothing due in part to their belief that 2023 first-round pick Will McDonald could take a sizable leap forward in his second season.
The McDonald pick was highly criticized a year ago, not helped by the fact that he played fewer snaps than any first-round pick in the NFL last season. McDonald will be given an opportunity to change that narrative, however.
The Iowa State product was quietly efficient in limited playing time as a rookie, and the Jets are counting on him to be a key piece in their defensive line rotation in 2024.
A strong showing at minicamp would go a long way toward easing the minds of Jets fans who still have their doubts. The Will McDonald revenge tour begins this week.
